A two-vehicle crash Friday caused a Toyota minivan to hit the side of the Honeybaked Ham Company building on Thompson Bridge Road and ended with five people being transported to the hospital, Gainesville Fire Department spokesman Keith Smith said.

Two of injured people had serious injuries. The violent collision at approximately 6 p.m. caused the driver of a Ford F150 truck to be ejected.

Southbound lanes were closed at Enota and Thompson Bridge Road, as first responders rushed to the aid of the injured, said Smith, a division chief and paramedic with GFD.

There were no customers inside Honeybaked Ham at the time of the accident. Two employees inside the store were startled but not injured. The minivan did not appear to cause any damage to the store.

“We had the building inspector come out and cleared it. It doesn’t look like any structural damage right now,” Smith said.

The inspector will re-examine it Saturday, Smith said.
