Deanna Renee Kipp, 24, and her boyfriend Stephen West, 22, pleaded not guilty Thursday to the murder of Kipp's 18-month-old daughter, Kaylee Kipp.

Each is accused of assaulting Kaylee with an unspecified "blunt object" sometime between June 11 and June 12, resulting in the child's death.

Both were indicted last month on charges of malice murder, aggravated assault, cruelty to a child in the first degree and two counts of felony murder.

Deanna Kipp also faces an additional count each of felony murder and cruelty to a child.

District Attorney Lee Darragh said neither Kipp not West appeared in court but instead waived arraignment through their attorneys.

"Each entered a not guilty plea through their attorney, their presence was waived and they both remain in the Hall County Jail," Darragh said.

A tentative trial date has been set for July 2012.

Gainesville Police responded to a call of a 2-year-old not breathing on June 12 at On Riverside Condominiums. By the time paramedics arrived Kaylee Kipp's body was "cold to the touch" and stiff, according to a police report.

Lee Parks, West's defense attorney, couldn't be reached for comment.
