Corps seeks input for Lanier operational plan update

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold five public meetings in October on updating operational manuals for the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River basin, which includes Lake Lanier.

The corps’ water control manuals spell out how their reservoirs should be managed, including how much water is released. Lanier residents and Georgia politicians have long criticized the corps for continuing to operate the lake according to a manual that hasn’t been updated in 50 years.

The public meetings will be done in an open-house format. Participants will be able to review information and give their comments to staff members.

The Gainesville event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the Georgia Mountains Center.
