Veterans and active military personnel can get in free Wednesday, or Veterans Day, at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recreation areas nationwide.

The waiver includes boat-launch ramp and swimming beach fees. Fees for camping and related services, such as picnic shelters, won’t be waived.

The gesture is being done “in honor of our veterans and their families,” said E. Patrick Robbins, corps spokesman for the Mobile, Ala.-based district, which includes Lake Lanier.

A list of the recreation areas can be found here.

In addition, veterans and active military can get a 25 percent discount on a $50 annual pass to Georgia state parks and historic sites at any time of year. The pass exempts visitors from paying the $5 daily parking fee. The daily parking fee also is waived on Wednesdays for all state park visitors, including the upcoming Veterans Day.
