Residents of Cornelia are under a boil-water advisory after a 10-inch main ruptured Tuesday on Chase Road, according to a news release from the city.

The broken main can cause pressure in parts of the water system to drop to dangerously low levels, creating a potential health hazard.

The main waterlines were isolated on Chase Road, Fox Hollow, Red Fox Hollow, and Arbor Gate subdivision, the release stated.

To protect the public from a potential health hazard, all residents who have experienced water outages or low water pressures are advised to boil all water prior to use for drinking, cooking, or preparing baby food. The water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil.

Residents should continue to boil their water until they are notified the water system has been restored to full operation.

The release stated the city was unable to estimate when repairs would be completed.
