Cadet 2nd Lt. Jack Zappendorf of Riverside Military Academy received the $1,000 Clarice Bagwell Eagle Scout Scholarship Award at the Northeast Georgia Council for the Boys Scouts of America’s annual Eagle Scout Banquet in April. Zappendorf, who served Troop 109 of Bethel United Methodist Church, had qualified as an Eagle Scout candidate at the age of 13, completed his project at 14 and had been serving as the only assistant junior scoutmaster in Dawson County since he was 15 years old. He received his award in front of hundreds of new fellow Eagle Scouts, their families, friends, mentors and volunteers.
