The Gainesville City Board of Education was named as a 2015 Exemplary Board by the Georgia School Boards Association.

At its annual conference held in Atlanta, GSBA recognized the Gainesville school board along with 34 school boards across the state that qualified for the Exemplary Board program.

To be considered for the distinction, school boards must meet certain criteria that parallel governance standards defined by the State Board of Education.

Board members are Maria Calkins, Dr. Delores Diaz, Brett Mercer, Willie Mitchell and Sammy Smith.
