Food pantry adding extra day, gets help from Scouts

Boy Scout Troop 135 of Flowery Branch spent a recent Saturday morning helping the South Hall Community Food Pantry prepare for an extra day of serving residents.

The pantry, located at 4211 Walnut St. in Oakwood, is now open from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in an effort to make it easier for people who work to top by and pick up food. The pantry is also open from 3-5 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. to noon on Thursdays and Saturdays.

The pantry is staffed by members of Christ Lutheran Church, Oakwood First United Methodist Church, Saint Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, First Baptist Church of Oakwood, McEver Road United Methodist Church and Restoration Presbyterian Church.
