A homecoming celebration for the Gainesville-based 802nd Ordnance Company Army Reserve unit is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Lakewood Baptist Church in Gainesville.

The 802nd returned to the U.S. in November after its members came home unharmed from serving a tour in Afghanistan.

Patriot's Call, a military support group, is organizing the event during the company's drill weekend, when more than 200 troops will be in Gainesville.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office Color Guard, Chestatee High School band and chorus and Patriot Guard Riders, a motorcycle group that often appears at military-related events, all will be part of the festivities.

The 802nd commander, Capt. Todd Bostick, is scheduled to speak and present awards to soldiers, Ron Kellner of Operation Patriot's Call said.
