An early morning fire Tuesday destroyed a home on Carolina Street in the New Holland community.

The fire, reported around 5:55 a.m., caused about $125,000 damage to a two-story house, Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said.

A child treated for smoke inhalation at the scene is doing fine, he said.

The fire caused some interruption in traffic, with one lane of Jesse Jewell Parkway shut down while firefighters attacked the blaze.

The American Red Cross is helping three adults and two children who lived in the house, Kimbrell said.

The property owner and insurance investigators were at the home shortly after 2 p.m., and the cause of the fire remained undetermined.
