While the 2010 census numbers for Georgia have yet to be released, estimates issued Monday by the U.S. Census Bureau gave a sneak peak of what Hall County could expect.
The annual population estimates showed the county adding 2,513 people between July 2010 and July 2009, a slight increase over the previous years' 2,231-person jump.
The bureau began releasing the official statewide 2010 census numbers on a rolling basis in January and have announced 26 states. Georgia's release date has not been announced, but all states' numbers will be released by the end of March.
Monday's estimates showed Georgia's 2010 population at 9,908,357 an increase of 94,769 over 2009. In 2009, the state grew 123,311 people over 2008.
Hall County Planning Director Randy Knighton said he is awaiting the official census figures, which he will compare to Hall County's own population and demographic estimates. The numbers will also help the county in planning for future growth, he said.
"Whenever there is a census it provides the foundation and ground work for future projections and to anticipate any growth trends that may be taking place," he said.
