Jordan elected to GMA Board
Gainesville City Clerk Denise Jordan was elected to the Georgia Municipal Association's Board of Directors at the organization's annual meeting June 23 in Savannah.

Jordan also serves as president of the Clerks and Finance Officers Section.

"We are pleased to have Ms. Jordan serving on the GMA Board of Directors," GMA Executive Director Jim Higdon said. "She is well respected by her colleagues, and I'm sure she'll provide great leadership to other city officials in the state."

Based in Atlanta, GMA is a nonprofit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and technical assistance services to its 500 member cities.

Gainesville attorney Hicks joins Atlanta firm as general counsel
Gainesville resident Adam S. Hicks has joined Atlanta-based Habersham Funding LLC as general counsel.
Hicks, a native Atlantan, was previously with National Financial Services Group and has experience in law, insurance and financial planning.

"Adam's unique combination of experience goes to the heart of what we do here," said M. Bryan Freeman, founder and president of Habersham. "He is the seasoned professional we need to help guide us through the increasingly regulated business of the secondary market for life insurance. Much of his experience focuses on financial and estate protection issues."

Hicks holds life and health insurance licenses in numerous states. He previously worked with Peachtree Planning Corporation and AXA Financial, Inc. Hicks' legal experience in private practice includes civil litigation, small business representation and advanced estate tax planning. He also served as a prosecutor in Hall County State Court.

Hicks holds a bachelor's degree in general engineering from the United States Naval Academy and a juris doctorate from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

Hicks lives in Gainesville with his wife and children.

Gainesville attorney named VP of Georgia trial lawyers group
Jonathan "Jon" Pope of Hasty Pope LLP in Gainesville was named a regional vice president of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association representing the 7th Congressional District.

The vice presidents assist GTLA with outreach, membership recruitment and retention and various political endeavors while representing their regions.

"A young attorney, Jon has the knowledge of the law and the commitment to justice that a seasoned leader has," GTLA President Chris Clark said.

Pope graduated from The Citadel in 1992 and received his law degree from Georgia State University in 1995. His practice has focused on personal injury cases.

In March, Pope was named a Rising Star for the second time by his peers in Atlanta Magazines Superlawyers edition. He also was named one of Georgia's "40 under 40" in 2004 by Georgia Trend Magazine.

Pope is a former president of the Young Lawyers Division and executive committee member of the State Bar of Georgia.
Pope lives in Gainesville with his wife, Amy, and his two children.

Financial adviser Baldwin earns Jack Phelan award
Beth Howse Baldwin, a financial adviser with Edward Jones Financial's Gainesville office, has received the Jack Phelan Award for her outstanding sales and service efforts over the past year.

The award is earned by 3,229 of the firm's more than 12,000 financial advisers.

"Beth Baldwin is an outstanding member of the Edward Jones team who personifies the ideal financial advisor, someone who is 100 percent dedicated to serving the financial needs of her clients," said James D. Weddle, Edward Jones' managing partner. "I am very pleased to present this well-deserved award."

Edward Jones provides financial services in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom.

Gainesville radiologist Haun earns AMA 50-year honor
Dr. Cosmo Haun, an associate radiologist with MRI & Imaging of Georgia's Gainesville office, has recently been honored by the American Medical Association for his 50-year graduation from medical school.

He has served as professor of radiology at Emory University and later was chief of radiology at Lanier Park Hospital for 17 years.

Haun graduated from the University of Tennessee in Memphis, Tenn., and has been a member of the American Medical Association for 50 years. He is one of 2,000 physicians across the country who have been selected for this honor. He is also a member of the American Medical Association's Senior Physicians Group, which includes 60,000 physicians who are 65 and older.
