Gainesville HR risk manager to head national organization
Gainesville Human Resources and Risk Manager Cindy Mallett was sworn in June 8 as the 2011-2012 Public Risk Management Association president at the association's annual membership luncheon in Portland, Ore.
Mallett, who has been with the city for 10 years, will lead the association of more than 1,000 public entities and oversee its nine-person board of directors until June 2012.
Gainesville City Manager Kip Padgett said PRIMA is very fortunate to have someone of Mallett's caliber serve in such a leadership role.
"Cindy has always been an excellent role model for the City of Gainesville. She demonstrates a level of integrity that is unsurpassed and now the rest of the country will witness this as well," Padgett said.
One of Mallett's goals for the coming year is to reach out to those that may not be called risk managers in the public sector but who are shouldered with the responsibility of purchasing insurance, administering safety programs or any of the various components of risk management.
Industry safety council cites Wayne Farms poultry plants
Nine Wayne Farms' facilities were recently honored by the Joint Industry Safety and Health Council for outstanding safety performance by implementing innovative and effective safety and health programs at the 2011 National Safety Conference for the Poultry Industry in Savannah.
Three of the Oakwood-based company's facilities, including the processing plants in Pendergrass, received Awards of Distinction, the highest accolade offered.
"I am extremely proud of the safety programs in place across Wayne Farms and I credit the hard work and consistent attention offered by our dedicated safety teams," Reggie McLee, Director of Safety for Wayne Farms said. "Our teams always keep workplace safety top of mind and are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to improve our already solid programs."
Award consideration was based on injury statistics over a three-year period and an evaluation of written applications by three judges.
The Joint Industry Safety and Health Council is comprised of members from the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, National Chicken Council, and National Turkey Federation.
Wayne Farms LLC is the sixth-largest vertically integrated poultry producer in the United States with annual sales exceeding $1 billion and employs more than 8,900 workers.
