Gainesville-Hall jobless rate rises again, now 7.8 percent
Labor Department blames layoffs for rate increase in July

The unemployment rate in metro Gainesville was up again in July, the preliminary rate is up three-tenths of a percentage point to 7.8 percent, the Georgia Department of Labor announced today. The jobless rate in the area, which includes all of Hall County, was 8.3 percent in July 2011. The rate increased because there were 345 new layoffs in manufacturing, trade, and administrative and support services, the Labor Department said.
