A 24-year-old Braselton man died in a one-vehicle wreck in Suwanee on Tuesday, according to a news release.

Gwinnett County Police believe alcohol and speed contributed to the wreck that caused the death of 24-year-old Jonathon Williamson.

Williamson died after the white 1989 BMW he was driving left Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road, struck a cement culvert, overturned and caught fire.

A passenger in the car, 25-year-old Timothy Chambers of Lawrenceville, survived the crash. Chambers told police that he tried to pull Williamson from the vehicle, but was unsuccessful.

Witnesses to the accident told police that they had seen the BMW passing other vehicles on the road at a high rate of speed before it hit the culvert, according to the release.

Gwinnett County Police say the accident still is under investigation.
