Boling Bridge work starts with Thursday lane closure
Weekend closures begin Sept. 17

The Ga. 53/Dawsonville Highway bridge from Hall into Forsyth County is set for a partial closing Thursday in preparation for eight weekends of full bridge closings this fall.

One lane of Boling Bridge is scheduled to close from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, so crews can complete measurements for truss work that is part of the weekend project, set to begin Sept. 17.

A flagger will allow only one direction of traffic to cross the bridge at a time on Thursday.

The weekend work schedule, weather permitting, will be 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday throughout the project, said Teri Pope, spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Massana Construction of Tyrone will repair damaged horizontal trusses and bridge joints and remove and replace the concrete approach slabs to the bridge.

Crews will lower the new approach slabs by about 5 inches. The completion date for the project is Nov. 30.

Signs will direct motorists to the detour route, which is Ga. 369/Browns Bridge Road.

To receive weekly updates on the weekend closings, send an e-mail to Pope at tpope@dot.ga.gov or call 511.

Message signs were placed on Browns Bridge Road and Dawsonville Highway Tuesday to alert motorists of the upcoming work.
