Blue Sky concerts
When: Noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays in October
Where: Downtown Gainesville square
How much: Free
October is here, meaning it’s time for the fall edition of the Blue Sky Concert series.
For the last 12 years, Main Street Gainesville has been presenting the free series every May and October on the square in downtown Gainesville.
“The purpose of the concert is to give the community another great reason to come to our wonderful downtown to shop in our stores and eat in our restaurants,” said Angela Thompson, Main Street’s manager.
If you can’t make it downtown after work, don’t worry — the concerts are from noon until 1 p.m. Wednesdays, just in time for a quick lunch break.
“Lunchtime is always very busy in downtown, especially during the week,” Thompson said.
“We like to offer a variety of programs and the Blue Sky concerts provide a wonderful midweek break.”
This week’s performance will feature the Swing Daddies, an act that has a “Frank Sinatra, Rat Pack style,” Thompson says.
The first concert is Wednesday, with subsequent concerts on Oct. 13, 20 and 27.
The second concert will feature Georgia Whiskey, a southern rock band.
Main Street Gainesville is a program that specializes in promoting the downtown area. Each year, the program hosts a variety of activities including Art in the Square, Old Friends Classic Car Show and Trick or Treat on the Square.
