A UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter prepares for a short medevac drill Monday afternoon at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s Gainesville campus. NGMC is the only hospital that can accommodate an emergency landing for an injured soldier within the greater Northeast Georgia/metro Atlanta area.
With the dusty arrival of a Black Hawk helicopter on its campus Monday afternoon, Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville may figure into future emergency response plans for the Army’s Camp Merrill in Dahlonega. The helicopter, leaving from a simulated accident at Mount Yonah in White County, landed in an open field near the hospital’s North Patient Tower off Downey Boulevard. Army personnel then worked to remove a fake patient from the aircraft and place it in a waiting ambulance.
