Possibility of standing room only

Organizers say a planned tax rally today in Dawsonville could turn out to be one of the largest in Northeast Georgia.

"There's a possibility of standing room only if we get more than 500," Dawson County Tea Party spokesman Bob Frey said.

The rally is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Lakeview Center on Dawson Forest Road.

Previous meetings of the local tea party chapter have ushered in several hundred attendees.

The slate of speakers is expected to draw a crowd.

Held in conjunction with the birthday of the National Tea Party, the rally will feature 9th District U.S. Rep. Tom Graves, R-Ranger, commentary by CEO and co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots, Jenny Beth Martin, and Phil Hinson of Georgia for Fair Tax.

Graves is expected to speak on the national budget and "the nonsense going on in Washington right now," Frey said.

Martin will outline her 40-year plan for the party, which Frey said focuses on "what she considers nonpartisan activism."

Frey said two years ago a tax rally attended by more than 15,000 was held in Atlanta the same day.

"They're not having the rally this year, because they have a tax summit planned for later this summer or fall," Frey said. "We're trying to pick up on that void."
