The deaths of Jake and Griffin Prince in a June 18, 2012, boating accident created enough sense of urgency to spur statewide legislative changes to Georgia criminal code. Because of an intense focus on the alleged role of boater Paul J. Bennett’s alcohol impairment, a bill signed in April called the Jake and Griffin Prince BUI Law lowered the per se standard for boating under the influence in Georgia from a blood alcohol concentration of 0.1 to 0.08. Bennett, of Cumming, was operating the Sea Fox vessel that collided with the Avalon pontoon carrying the Prince family of five along with eight others.
