Beatty wins Flowery Branch council election

Monica Beatty is Flowery Branch’s newest councilwoman, winning in Tuesday’s runoff election over Nicole Kriews.

Beatty had 102 votes, over Kriews' 73 votes.

Tuesday’s runoff came after a June 9 special election to fill Posts 1 and 5 on the City Council. Chris Mundy won the Post 1 seat at that time, with Beatty and Kriews being the top two vote-getters but neither earning more than 50 percent of the vote, necessary for an outright win.

Beatty will take over the Post 5 position, which runs through December 2017.

Qualifying for the November election will take place Aug. 31-Sept. 4 for Mundy’s seat as well as for Post 2, currently held by Mary Jones.
