The beaches at River Forks Park and Lake Lanier Olympic Park have reopened, according to a Facebook post from Hall County Parks and Leisure.
The beaches had previously been closed due to high amounts of rain, but the water has been tested for bacteria levels and the areas have been cleared by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Chris Lovelady, the corps’ assistant operations project manager for Lake Lanier, said it is difficult to test for bacteria after heavy rains because of all the water flowing into the lake.
“We did our round of testing, and we got our results, and the lake went up and then we stopped,” Lovelady said.
Saturday, June 9, is also a free fishing day, so Georgia residents do not need a license to fish on public waters.
