A man’s body was found Sunday, Oct. 2, off of Atlanta Highway, and Hall County investigators are searching for a suspect.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office responded just after noon Sunday to the homeless camp on Atlanta Highway, where a 60-year-old Asian man was found dead.

Authorities have not released the man’s name or cause of death.

The Sheriff’s Office said they did not have any new information to share Monday, Oct. 3, and they are still trying to notify the man’s family.

People familiar with the man said he had been in that area for some years, describing him as someone who mostly kept to himself.

Ninth District Opportunity housing/program planner Michael Fisher, who works on the homeless street outreach team, did not know the details of what happened.

Fisher said he has heard reports of violence against the homeless in the area, though he does not know if it is associated with this man’s case.

“There’s not a more vulnerable person in the community, in Gainesville proper, than this gentleman that was taken from us,” Fisher said.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth said he has not seen any reports matching what Fisher described.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office or 911.
