A Lula woman allegedly subjected her 5-year-old son to unnecessary treatments and medications over a two-year period, according to authorities.

Teresa Lynne Roth, 34, was charged Thursday with first-degree child cruelty.

“While in his parents’ care, the child was on numerous different medications, in a wheelchair and on a feeding tube,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Scott Ware wrote in a news release. “Additionally, the parents drew disability on the child’s behalf.”

Magistrate Court officials said Roth was denied a court-appointed attorney, and no other attorney information was available.

Ware said the investigation began in October after Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta contacted Hall County’s Division of Family and Children Services. Hall County DFCS then contacted law enforcement regarding a potential criminal investigation.

Ware said Roth allegedly caused her son “unnecessary physical and mental pain by subjecting him to undergo unnecessary medical treatments and medications, jeopardizing his well-being” between January 2016 and October 2018.

Ware said the child is now doing well, and investigators obtained the arrest warrant on Thursday, Feb. 21.

Ware said the case is active and “other arrests may be pending.”
