Hall County Fire Services responded Thursday to a vehicle submerged in a Lake Lanier cove, and a dive team was dispatched to search for potential victims.
Though authorities believe the car did not have any occupants inside when it was discovered sinking near a boat ramp at Mountain View Park off Old 141 and Browns Bridge Road, the search continued throughout the late afternoon.
Capt. Zachary Brackett said Fire Services was assisting the Hall County Sheriff's Office with recovery of the vehicle.
Gwinnett County resident Jackson Luke pulled up to the park just as the car was slipping beneath the surface, its tail lights still visible. No one else was around.
“I was coming through and checking out the park, and something shiny caught my eye about 10 yards off the shore,” he added.
Luke said he jumped in the water and swam to the car to see if anybody was inside the sinking automobile.
“I tried to open my eyes beneath the water but couldn’t see because of the gas,” he added.
