Authorities: Man picked up on probation violation is suspect in armed robbery

A South Carolina man who was wanted by Gainesville Police on an armed robbery charge was picked up by authorities on a probation violation, according to authorities.

Damion Montreal Carter, 44, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, theft by taking and other charges. He was booked Friday, March 29, in to the Hall County Jail, where he remains.

Gainesville Police took a report Aug. 6, 2017, for a robbery that allegedly happened on Old Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville near Hidden Cove Court.

At the time, Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said a man’s purse was taken and later located.

“Carter did take a purse and its content by use of force using a firearm,” Cpl. Jessica Van wrote in an email Monday, April 1.

Van said investigators obtained warrants on the armed robbery charges in 2017.

Carter was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
