Authorities found roughly $21,000 worth of methamphetamine and other drugs at a Gainesville man’s home.
“Whenever we get any kind of information like that where it is near a school, day care or anything like that, we try to jump on that pretty quickly,” Lt. Don Scalia said.
Thomas’ home is near Chestatee High School, Chestatee Academy and Sardis Enrichment School.
Scalia said there was no indication Thomas was selling to anyone related with the schools.
Authorities said they found about 214 grams of meth in six bags, two alprazolam tablets and roughly 2 grams of marijuana. Alprazolam is commonly seen as Xanax.
Scalia said authorities also found a “.22 caliber pistol, digital scales, packaging materials, drug paraphernalia” and $2,002 in cash.
Thomas was charged with trafficking and possessing with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of alprazolam and marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He was booked Thursday, May 3, in to the Hall County Jail, where he remains.
