Authorities say a Buford man drove his girlfriend from California to his home and physically and sexually assaulted her for 24 hours.

The woman got away Friday when Thuan Q. Dinh left the home briefly, Gwinnett County Police said, fleeing to a neighbor’s home two doors down. She was naked with hands bound by rope and duct tape around her head and neck, and the neighbors removed the duct tape before police arrived.

Police said Dinh tied up, raped and tased the victim while she was at his home on Grand Ashbury Lane in Buford. She was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for her injuries. Police say the 41-year-old woman is in a safe location.

After getting a search warrant, officers searched the home where the alleged crimes occured and found what they believe to be a “large amount” of marijuana.

Dinh was not home at the time, but was arrested after a Wednesday traffic stop on Buford Highway and Suwanee Dam Road. He was booked into Gwinnett County jail about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Dinh has been charged with rape, false imprisonment, robbery and two counts of aggravated assault.

Investigators believe Dinh is the woman’s boyfriend.
