A man is accused of physically restraining and raping a woman in Alto, according to authorities.

Mark Aaron Gibson, 32, of Alto is charged with rape, two counts of aggravated sodomy, battery, false imprisonment and obstruction.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Scott Ware said Gibson allegedly “raped and sodomized the victim” Monday night at a Mud Creek Road residence in Alto.

“Gibson physically restrained the victim, leaving visible marks on her neck,” Ware said in a news release. “Gibson disabled a vehicle in an attempt to prevent her from escaping.”

The victim later escaped and called 911, Ware said.

Investigators searched the residence, and authorities said Gibson was not compliant with deputies and “physically resisted being handcuffed.”

Gibson and the alleged victim are acquainted.

He was booked in Tuesday at the Hall County Jail, where he remains.
