Attempted robbery reported at Gainesville Waffle House
Waffle House stock

A man grabbed a knife around 4 a.m. Wednesday in a Gainesville Waffle House and demanded cash, police said.

Gainesville Police said it happened at the Pentee Drive restaurant off Athens Highway.

“I think initially he had made a hand gesture … of a gun and then from there I think he picked up one of the knives off the table,” Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said.

The man left the store “when cash was not available,” Holbrook said.

No one was hurt.

The suspect was described as a black man wearing a navy blue shirt and light gray sweatpants. No other identifying details were given.
