Question of the day: When is Golden Corral planning to open?

That is a good question, and one often asked.

The new restaurant in Gainesville Towne Center at Browns Bridge Road and Pearl Nix Parkway has been in the works for quite a long time.

The project dates to May of 2016, when the buffet-style restaurant was first proposed to replace Folks, which closed and was demolished in December of that year.

We reported in November of 2017 in a previous Ask The Times, that the restaurant could open as soon as April 2018. The date was then moved to Christmas of 2018. Then The Times was told by franchisee Eric Holm in late November of 2018 that Golden Corral would open by mid-January “for sure. There shouldn’t be any ifs, ands or buts on that.”

More than a week into February, the restaurant still has not opened. An announcement on its Facebook page says the restaurant is hiring staff members, and The Times was told via Facebook on Jan. 23 and again on Wednesday that the restaurant did “not quite yet” have an opening date.
