The bass weren’t hitting Saturday at Balus Creek Park on Lake Lanier.
“We used the nightcrawlers, the crickets and we tried all the lures,” said Stanley Couch of Cumming, who was nonetheless undeterred as he and buddy Charles (Chuck) Rogers of Gainesville fished the park shores. “I’ll tell you one thing. We’re gonna catch something today. I guarantee it.”
Rogers expressed less concern over whether or not their day of angling yielded fish.
“When you get to be my age (64), it’s less about whether you catch something,” he said. “It’s all about just sitting here and doing nothing. Enjoying the day.”
And, that’s what lots of folks did Saturday in Hall County. With pristine skies and the sun beating down on their shoulders, locals took to area parks to enjoy a warm, spring afternoon. Temperatures reached 83 degrees Saturday.
The outlook for Sunday looks similar, with highs of 85 degrees expected and a 30 percent chance of scattered showers, according to Ryan Willis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.
Willis said Monday’s forecast also called for a high of 85 degrees with “pretty similar chances of rain.”
He said that Saturday’s weather was “a little higher than average for this time of year. Typically, it’s about six degrees cooler than this.”
James Chambers and wife Alison said the weather was “just right” Saturday as the couple backed their pontoon boat down the ramp at Mountain View Park off Browns Bridge Road.
“It’s a good day to get out,” James said.
