Hall County sheriff’s deputies have increased patrols on roads entering the county following a shooting of two police officers in Athens-Clarke County this afternoon.

"We are just being proactive," said Col. Jeff Strickland, spokesman.

Athens-Clarke Police has posted a lookout for a car they believe the suspect may be traveling in — a Silver Geo Prism with GA tag 375GHX.

The vehicle was last seen at Old Hull Road and the Ga. 10 Loop surrounding Athens.

The police department cautioned people to report the vehicle to police. The driver should be considered armed and dangerous, the bulletin said.

Athens-Clarke police Capt. Clarence Holeman said that one officer has been killed and a second officer was badly wounded and is being treated at a local hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Holeman says the officers were trying to stop a suspect in a carjacking.

Police were searching house by house for a suspect, whom they describe as a 33-year-old man.
