The company in charge of Park Hill Apartments in Gainesville and local police are investigating alleged embezzlement, police said.

“A previous employee was allegedly pocketing money while employed at the business. The employee would accept money from tenants, but keep a portion of it,” Cpl. Jessica Van wrote in an email.

Van said the business is still auditing finances to determine the exact amount, but it was estimated to “be over $10,000 over the span of three years.” The date range listed in the report, however, was from May 2, 2018 to April 10. A report was filed with Gainesville Police May 2.

“The case is still actively being investigated. Our detectives are still gathering information and interviewing witnesses,” Chief Jay Parrish wrote in an email.

Greenleaf Management Stephanie Robinson was unsure of what alerted management to the potential embezzlement, though she stressed tenants would not be negatively affected.

“No one’s being evicted or wrongly evicted. We’re working with each resident who comes forward on an individual basis,” Robinson said. “On the management side, all of the residents, we’re taking care of them. Nothing bad is happening to them. We’re just supporting them how we can through the transition.”
