The Gainesville-Hall Animal Control Department reported Wednesday that a skunk, captured and shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab in Decatur, has tested positive for rabies.

Animal Control officials said the skunk had been in contact with a person in the Chandler Park area of Gainesville on Saturday.

A door-to-door canvass has been done in the area and residents were advised to report any abnormal animal activity to the Gainesville-Hall Animal Control Department at 770-531-6830 or, during nonworking hours, Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.

Any county residents owning pets that are not up to date on rabies vaccinations should take their pets to a veterinarian office immediately for vaccinations.
