One person was injured in a wreck Friday on Interstate 85 in Buford, according to the Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

A fire truck traveling southbound about 4:35 p.m. south of Buford Drive came upon a wreck in which a pickup carrying cabinet installation supplies had overturned, said Gwinnett fire department spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge. The supplies included a large box of assorted screws, which scattered across the roadway from the median to the guardrail.

The state Department of Transportation was asked to assist in the cleanup, and the southbound lanes of I-85 were closed, Rutledge said.

One person was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, he said, and a second person was transported to the hospital for a medical emergency unrelated to the accident.

The accident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.
