The number of rabies cases in Hall County this year continues to climb, with the 22nd case confirmed Friday.
Rick Aiken, president of the Humane Society of Hall County, said the incident occurred May 19, when an infected raccoon came into contact with two domestic dogs near Stillwater Place in South Hall.
Fortunately, he said, the dogs were current on their rabies vaccinations, so they will not have to be euthanized or placed in long-term quarantine.
The humane society will hold another low-cost rabies vaccination clinic from 8:30 to noon Saturday at Jaemor Farms. Shots are $10 per animal. Dogs and cats must be at least 3 months old and must be restrained on a leash or in a carrier.
