Gainesville residents can expect to receive their tax bills in the mail this week.
Gainesville Tax Coordinator Dee Dee Stephens said this is the final bill for 2013. Approximately 11,710 tax bills were mailed this year.
The city’s first installment billing that is always due the first part of September is based on the previous year’s tax information, Stephens said in a news release. Residents whose assessed value or name changed from the previous year or who signed up for a new exemption will receive only a final bill, due Dec. 20. That bill will cover the full year.
“If no changes are made to property next year, you should go back to receiving two bills each year,” Stephens said.
Failure to receive the bill doesn’t relieve property owners of penalty and interest. Anyone who does not receive a bill by the end of next week is asked to contact the tax office at 770-535-5639 for a copy of the bill.
