A 2-year-old Gainesville girl was flown from Grady Memorial Hospital to a specialized hospital in Ohio for young burn victims Wednesday.

The girl, whose name has not been released by fire officials, was one of two victims in a Monday morning fire at Spring Street Apartments across from Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Gainesville Fire Chief Jon Canada said the girl remained in critical condition Wednesday, when she was flown to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Cincinnati, which specializes in pediatric burn care.

Her 61-year-old grandfather also remains in critical condition at Grady, Canada said. The girl’s mother and 3-year-old brother survived the fire with minor smoke inhalation injuries.

Officials have not released a cause of the fire.
