Two duck hunters were rescued from Lake Lanier on Friday after their boat sank.

David Kimbrell, EMA Director for Hall County Fire Services, said the two men in their 20s were on the southern part of the lake near Garrett Road when their boat began to take on water. They began firing their weapons to get the attention of people on land, Kimbrell said.

A resident along Garrett Road heard their gunfire and called 911, then went to rescue the men after their boat sank.

The two were transported to local hospitals, one to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and the other to Gwinnett Medical Center, suffering from hypothermia.

The Army Corps of Engineers reported Friday’s water temperature at Buford Dam to be 44 degrees.
