Two North Georgia men were arrested this week on charges of burglarizing a Dahlonega convenience store and cashing in winning scratch-off tickets they stole there.

Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Capt. Jason Stover said Taft Dwayne Gilreath, 28, and Jeremiah Austin Cochran, 27, were arrested Tuesday by members of the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Narcotics and Burglary section.

Gilreath of Dahlonega and Cochran of Jasper are accused of breaking into the BP convenience store at the intersection of Highway 60 and Seven Mile Hill Road in the early-morning hours of July 3.

An unspecified number of Georgia Lottery scratch-off tickets were taken in the burglary, Stover said. Winning tickets were cashed in for an unspecified amount at four different Pickens County stores before they could be de-activated, Stover said.

Lumpkin County sheriff’s investigators tracked the men to Pickens County, where the arrests were made.
