While many mothers are looking forward to being pampered on May 14, adoptive and foster moms are getting some special treatment one week early.
A free brunch dedicated to adoptive and foster moms will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Lakewood Baptist Church at 2235 Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville.
“We are hosting our first Mother’s Day brunch for adoptive and and foster moms, and this is truly a gift to these moms,” said Teresa Grimes, minister coordinator for Jochebed’s Hope. “We just wanted to do something to honor them at this time of the year and to thank them for their commitment to mothering,”
Grimes explained Jochebed’s Hope is Lakewood’s “new adoption orphan care and foster care ministry.”
The event will include a breakfast for the moms beginning at 9:30 a.m. as well as a special guest speaker, Beth Templeton.
“Beth is an adoptive mom and one of the cofounders of www.HopeatHome.org,” Grimes said. “She has a very encouraging and uplifting message for adoptive and foster moms.”
This is the first time Lakewood is offering this event, but they hope it returns next year.
“We hope that it will become an annual event and a time to both encourage and acknowledge adoptive and foster moms and the contributions that they make to our communities and our families,” she said.
The deadline to register for this special brunch is today. For more information, contact Grimes at 770-355-0437 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
