Residents can spread holiday cheer to a child in need by mailing an Operation Christmas Child shoebox this year.

Sponsored by the nondenominational Christian organization Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child supports impoverished or suffering children around the world through gifts and evangelical ministry. Previous donations have impacted communities in Paraguay, Namibia, Peru and the Philippines.

To donate, fill a standard size shoebox with children’s gifts such as toys, school supplies, personal care items, accessories or crafts along with a personal note. Do not include food, weapons, medications or glass items.

Deliver the box to one of several drop-off sites in the area. Boxes will be collected the week of Nov. 14-21.

With an additional $7 donation, participants can track their box as it ships and see where it is delivered.
