Army Pfc. James R. Umberhandt has graduated from the Special Forces Candidate One-Station Unit Training at Fort Benning in Columbus. During the first 14 weeks of basic infantry training, he received training in drill and ceremony, weapons employment, map reading, tactics, military customs and courtesies, military justice, physical fitness, road marches, first aid skills, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills, and battlefield operations and tactics, and experienced use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman. After completing basic infantry training, Umberhandt will complete airborne school with a subsequent assignment to Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, N.C., to prepare for and attend the Special Forces Qualification Course as a weapons sergeant or engineer sergeant. Upon graduation from all phases of training, the soldier will be assigned and promoted to a Special Forces weapons sergeant or engineer sergeant. Umberhandt is the son of James F. Umberhandt of Memorial Park Drive, Gainesville and Penny F. Umberhandt of Eastanollee.
Army Pfc. Steven M. Touton has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. During nine weeks of training, he studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. Touton is the son of Rhonda Touton of Cedar Ridge Drive, Gainesville. He graduated in 2003 from Forsyth Central High School in Cumming.
