Navy Seaman Recruit Ciaira J. Meyers, a 2009 graduate of Hidden Lake Academy in Dahlonega, and Navy Seaman Recruit Rily D. Passini, son of Gail Weaver of Clarkesville, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, Meyers and Passini completed a variety of training including firefighting, water safety and survival and shipboard and aircraft safety.

Army Pvt. Jerrell B. Barney has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction in military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat and field maneuvers and tactics.
Barney is the son of Karen Green of Gainesville.
He is a 2009 graduate of East Hall High School in Gainesville.
