The Atlanta Metropolitan Council of the Navy League of the United States has selected East Hall High School Navy JROTC cadet Eliud Martinez as the Outstanding Metro Cadet of the Year.

The announcement was made during the council's recent 16th annual Youth Awards Banquet. Top cadets from 40 Navy and Marine Corps JROTC units and seven Naval Sea Cadet Corps units competed for the distinction and were recognized at the banquet.

Martinez is a junior at East Hall High School, and is the executive officer of the NJROTC unit there. He has been accepted to the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Leadership Seminar in Daytona Beach, Fla., this summer, along with top cadets from NJROTC units throughout the eastern United States. Martinez is the son of Juan and Elisa Martinez of Gainesville.

Army National Guard Pvt. Theodore C. Ledford has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning in Columbus. During basic combat training, Ledford received training in weapons, tactics, military justice and battlefield operations and tactics.

He is the son of Frank and Trina Ledford of Gainesville and is a 2006 graduate of East Hall High School.
