The Lanier Quality Deer Management (QDM) Branch/Southern Heritage Land Company (SHLC) Hunters for the Hungry program in Gainesville donated the last of its 2013 frozen ground venison in mid-January.

Eight charities received highest-quality red meat, totaling 2,835 pounds. Charities included Georgia Mountain Food Bank, Gainesville Baptist Rescue Mission, Chattahoochee Baptist Mission, No One’s Alone women’s shelter, Serenity House, Riverbend Baptist Church, St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Three Dimensional Life (student rehabilitation).

Deer processors assisting in the program were North Georgia Processing in Lula (Mike Young) and Hicks Deer Cooler in Oglethorpe County (Barry Hicks).

Lanier QDMA started the venison processing program in fall 2006, making its first donation in December 2006 with a 500-pound delivery.
