Riverside Military Academy senior cadet Harrison Summerour has been nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy by U.S. Congressman Doug Collins, Georgia’s 9th District representative.
Each member of Congress may nominate up to 10 candidates from his or her district for consideration to a military service academy. Cadet Lt. Col. Summerour was the principal nominee, or Collins’ first choice overall, and has received his official acceptance from the Air Force Academy.
Summerour is the son of Mark and Charise Summerour of Dawsonville. He is a boarding cadet at Riverside where he serves as the battalion commander for 450 young men in the Corps of Cadets. He participates on the varsity football and wrestling teams and is chairman of the RMA honor council, a member of the National Honor Society and a peer-elected member of Riverside’s Horton Society.
During summer 2013, Summerour attended the Naval Academy program in Maryland and the Air Force program in Colorado during June and July. Only the most qualified applicants gain acceptance to the leadership programs to gain firsthand experience of cadet life at a U.S. military service academy.
On Aug. 5, Summerour completed his Federal Aviation Administration solo flight.
