Kenneth Alvarez

 

Kenneth Alvarez has been selected to receive the Jim Andrews Family Foundation Scholarship awarded by the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences for the 2011-12 academic year. 

Each year the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences awards scholarships to students totaling more than $100,000. 

Alvarez is a freshman at the University of Georgia majoring in agricultural and applied economics. As a 2011 graduate of West Hall High School, he was active in several student activities such as Spanish National Honor Society, Skills USA and FOCUS Club. 

In addition, Alvarez has remained active in philanthropic efforts by participating in a poverty awareness walk, Adopt-A-Stream and volunteering at the humane society. 

His goal is to work for an international agricultural trading company. Alvarez is the son of Juan Alvarez and Leticia Carrillo of Guanajuato, Mexico. 

Georgia Southern University recently recognized the following area students for excellence in academics on the summer semester dean’s list:

Gainesville: Steven B. Smith

Maysville: Hannah K. Botts

To be eligible, a student must have at least a 3.5 grade-point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.

The following students were named to the dean’s list at Savannah College of Art and Design for summer quarter. Full-time undergraduate students qualified with a 3.5 or higher GPA.

Gainesville: Alexandra Clotfelter, Jessica Dunagan
