Students at Sardis Elementary School recently hosted Sen. Lee Hawkins, who spoke to students about his role and responsibilities in the Georgia Senate. The visit was also in conjunction with a lesson on branches and levels of government as part of the Georgia Performance Standards for third-graders.

Eighth-grader Jeannie Sandoval's Christmas card design was selected by the city of Flowery Branch for its 2008 card. This is the third year students at West Hall Middle School have designed a card for Flowery Branch; the theme this year was Flowery Branch's downtown after a snow.

The Hall County School System was recently honored for its effort to improve the performance of students with disabilities. Specifically, the Georgia Department of Education cited the following areas where the district's performance for the 2007-2008 school year was high: Meeting the state target for educating young children in the least-restrictive environment. Meeting the state target for reducing the number of students who drop out of school. Meeting the state target for students who meet or exceed state achievement standards for reading/English language arts.
